Farmers Market is a unique time and resource management game that has managed to breathe new life into the time management game genre. Gameplay is similar to farm management games such as Farm Mania and the Farm Frenzy series, but this game deals with what happens after you've milked your cows and harvested your corn, when the goods get sent to market. No longer do the crops get sent off-screen in a truck and magically turn into money. Instead, your job here is to properly manage marketplaces to make sure the farmers turn a profit and everyone walks away happy.

The game will take you from region to region as you transform the many farmers markets around the country into thriving trading posts. Enjoy the scenery and the friendly townsfolk as you set up shop in various locations such as by the Mississippi river, in the scorching heat of the western plains, and by a rustic barn in the agricultural heartland. Each level in Farmers Market comes with a set of objectives you need to complete, and these objectives will quickly become more complex and difficult to achieve. These objectives include things like producing a certain amount of raw goods or processed foods, selling those foods, or earning a target amount of cash. These aren't too surprising, since you are running a money-making market, not an agricultural show!

So how do you achieve these objectives? In each marketplace, there are a number of plots which you can allocate to farmers and vendors. Once allocated, booths will be built and the farmer or vendor will start selling their foodstuff. There is a lot of dependency in making processed food for the vendors though. For example, if you want to sell hot dogs, you will obviously need a hot dog stand. But the hot dog stand will need meat from a butcher, and bread from a baker. And making the bread will require even more ingredients from the miller and the dairy booth!

As you can imagine, successfully completing each level's objectives will require proper strategy and planning. You will need to decide how many of each type of booth is required, and in what order you should build them (building booths costs money). In addition, booths need to be upgraded in order to produce rarer goods. A vegetable booth that initially sells corn can be upgraded to also produce corn oil or potatoes. Since french fries require both these ingredients, you will need 2 vegetable booths (each of which has received a different upgrade) plus the french fry booth in order to produce that artery-clogging snack.

Allocating booths is only half the game though. Farmers Market is a time management game after all, and this facet is present in the game in the form of workers. You start each level with a worker (and can hire more when you upgrade the office), and you send him around to basically do everything. Allocating a plot doesn't make a booth magically appear. A worker has to go build it. You also need workers to transport ingredients from the farmer booths to the vendor booths to get the food made.

However, making the food isn't going to make you money; you need customers! You'll have friendly townsfolk visiting your market and buying your available produce and food. You can also build special booths like bandstands to get a larger crowd coming to visit you. A large crowd creates more trash though, so you'll have to build enough trash cans and make sure the workers empty them regularly. Nobody wants to visit a dirty market! Many more of these elements are thrown in as you progress through the game.

Farmers Market is designed around pretty simple concepts, but the beautiful premise and huge variety of things that you can do in the game transforms it into a rich adventure with lots of replay value. All of this is also supported by crisp and colorful graphics as well as good music. Farmers Market will be a great game for you if you like farm management games such as Farm Mania or Farm Frenzy.

Final Fantasy X

As is the case with all modern Final Fantasy games, FFX delivered an incredible experience through and through. It was bold, innovative and amazing to play through. But there were some who were heavily dissatisfied by it. How could this be? Let's take a look.

The world of FFX was breathtaking. Many screen shots can be posted on walls as artwork, the vistas are rendered in the most complete detail. Even the characters seem very alive. There is certainly little negative one can say about the presentation of the game itself. The Aeon summonings will leave your jaw hanging slightly open. The animation is smooth and consistent throughout the game, and the attention to detail is truly commendable.

The ability to switch out characters mid-fight was something you don't see in a lot of large scale fantasy games. It lent a powerful, multi-character strategy to be developed and, in many cases, scrapped just as quickly. The advancement for each character on a map-like grid was especially appealing to me. There were several locations where one could choose one path or another, developing the character in different ways. The ability to learn powers that started off on another character later in the game was helpful for solidifying character teams the player preferred.

Of course, getting characters to the abilities you wanted for them could be time consuming, and this led some people to gripe about the feature. I found it exhilarating myself. The long hours of effort pay off in the end when you can build each character exactly how you wanted them, with a variety of different abilities and even build their stats around those abilities.

The largest complaint seemed to come near the end. In the final stages of the game you actually wind up inside the boss himself. The fight to get to that area is intense and very challenging. The reward? The final battle. This is the point where you would be hearing some cliffhanging riff, no?

However, the final battle is a disappointment of the highest variety. It seemed scarcely more challenging than the first boss of the game, many hours and levels prior. This, to me, was the largest letdown of the game. The inability to build to something climactic and intense is frustrating on all levels. To be sure, it is the games largest drawback.

Overall, of course, FFX is a solid 8.5 or 9 out of 10. The final battle, I'm afraid, is a 3 at best

Mirror's Edge

Mirrors Edge was born out of Parkour/free running and places you in the role of Faith, a messenger for the people of the city who don't trust electronic communications. Faith travels across rooftops, out of sight and out of mind of the authorities. However things are about to change.

I'm a bit late reviewing this, since it came out on PC in the early days of the site and I had already bought several games to review. So I've had the "opportunity" to read other reviews of this and see if my hopes that it would be the great landmark game it seemed like it could be. Apparently not!
So now it was my turn to have a go and see if I agreed with the general consensus. And the answer to that is yes and no.

You're taken through the basic training that shows you how to do the special wall running/jumping and rolling that helps you traverse the landscape. I have to admit, I tried this on the Xbox-360 and I found it far easier on the PC. Throughout the game I did come across some areas that took me many, many attempts to get past. I remember one area where it took me almost 30 times to get a tricky jump right. So it's not easy anyway. However, when you get it right, it's fabulous fun and the whole world feels completely accessible. I was really, really hoping for more possible routes in places though, they could have reduced the difficulty by doing this and made the game a little more fun for those of us who don't care if we get every move spot on.

The scenery itself however really appealed to me. The bright whiteness and huge scale of the city really gave Mirrors Edge an Epic feel to it. The problem was though, it's a bit like driving:
You don't really notice the scenery when you have to drive.

Combat wise was a similar story to the rest of the game. They suggest you try to isolate the enemies before you take them down, but the process of isolating them is tricky. If you get more than one attacking you in close quarters you can pretty much guarantee you'll be returning to the last checkpoint in no time. On the other hand, there are times where the combat just flows beautifully and you seem to be running rings around the bad guys. I do wish there had been a little more stealth in there. When you're taught combat you're shown how to disarm someone from behind. But I only came across one opportunity to do this. The bad guys always, always knew where I was otherwise even if they hadn't seen me for a while, so there was no real way to crawl around in secret and then disarm them easily. Additionally to this, the actual window of time for disarming some of these enemies was ridiculously short and I was forced to jump kick everyone and then run away before they could react nearly every time. Either that or use bullet time (oh yeah, they have bullet time) to slow everything down enough to get the click in.

The story of Mirrors Edge is short. It's a complaint I agree with, but on the other hand this is a fast game so the large areas that would take quite some time in your standard fps game take only a few seconds here. And although the story is short, it's not bad, which is a relief considering the daughter of the great Terry Pratchett was involved! I really hope that a sequel that focuses more on the story is on it's way because if there was just a bit more plot I think this could have been the hit of the year.
Some of the story is told in animated comic-book format. You'll either love it or hate it. I, for one, thought it was great.

The story is well matched by the music score that really worked for me. The minimalist sound really lent itself to the huge openness that the game, at least, portrays. I'm also a fan of the theme song, which helps I guess!

Basically the main problems with this game revolve around its length and it's unforgiving nature in regards to jumps and combat. It has huge plus points in its setting, quality of story/setting and fun once you've gotten used to it. If you can get your hands on the demo or not you'll know the second you start playing if this game is for you, but I think it's excellent.

Score: 80 out of 100

Final words: Mirrors Edge is a great game, but look before you leap! Try the demo first as it's not for everyone!

Call of Duty 4

Few series in the gaming world have been so varied in terms of quality quite as Call of Duty. Many console owners have only really had experience with 3rd game in the series, an Xbox 360 only installment that was developed by a different company from the original games. Call of Duty 3, while not a terrible game, wasn't a great example of what the series can achieve under the right direction.
Luckily Call of Duty 4 sees a return of developers Infinity Ward and a change of pace for the series. Traditionally set during the Second World War, COD 4 has moved the series forward to the modern day, swapping out the traditional Japanese and Nazi enemies for a more contemporary battlefield focused around terrorism.

A modern first person shooter set predominately against Middle Eastern terrorists might not sound exactly original, but the story turns out to be one of the games major selling points. The usual bravado and macho garbage that you usually find associated with FPS games is completely absent, replaced with some incredibly varied environments, realistic characters and a sense of the futility of war rather than the promotion of it.
The plot is backed up by some amazing level design. All of the epic set pieces that made Call of Duty 2 so amazing have returned in full force with the advantage of modern graphics and modern weaponry making the game even more explosive and dynamic than it was before. Levels involve a mix of the linear and open, and while there's nothing approaching a Farcry level of 'choosing' how to fight, there are plenty of areas where you've got enough options to allow for a variety of play styles and tactics.

The Artificial Intelligence is some of the best we've ever seen in a FPS. Combined with plenty of opportunities to make intelligent use of weapons and terrain there's a level of strategy in COD 4 that's slightly more advanced than most other Xbox 360 shooters. Even the obligatory stealth section is enjoyable rather than frustrating. The AI is good enough to make the game quite difficult, even on easier settings, so gamers will be in for a challenge.

Call of Duty 4 looks brilliant. Modern FPS games normally conjure an image of dull, grey brown colours and endless battles set in Middle Eastern, brown colored towns with no personality. COD 4 really breaks the mould with environments varying from barren deserts to lush forests that are nearly too nice to be destroyed by the battles that take place within them. The audio is particularly standout; if you have a good sound system it's nearly cinematic in quality and makes great use of directional audio.

At around six hours, the length is going to be the major turn off for many gamers looking to get more "bang" for their buck. However, what you get with COD 4 isn't so much about the quantity and more about the fact that every level and every fight has a purpose. Nothing has been added as filler just to pad out the game. It's honest, genuine quality from start to finish and well worth every cent.

Dead Or Alive 4

The Dead or Alive fighting games, produced for the XBox 360 by the production company Tecmo are well known for their sexy characters with large breast, flashing knickers, ripped torso's etc. This fourth release in the franchise is no different with buxom fighting girls such as Kasumi and Hitomi.

A new addition for this game that wasn't in the earlier ones is the presence of the Spartan character, who avid gamers will recognize from his fame in the Halo series, also made by Tecmo. This really does add a new dimension to the gameplay as well as adding obvious novelty value, and fans of Halo will really enjoy using Spartan to fight their way through the game and the other characters.

It is a fairly easy to learn game that doesn't require long hours of practice to learn enough moves to get anywhere, although the speed of the action can sometimes lend itself to button bashing rather than controlled skill. This makes it ideal for casual gamers or for people who don't usually play fighting games, but perhaps a little bit frustrating for veteran martial arts gamers.

There are some really beautiful backgrounds in the game, with plenty of attention to detail in the scenery. This does make it a visually attractive game and I think it is an important part of the overall experience.

There is perhaps an over-reliance on using big breasts and sexy female fighters to grab your attention, but then this is exactly what fans of Dead or Alive games love them for, so if you played an earlier incarnation and enjoyed it then it's a pretty safe bet that you will enjoy this one too. If your new to the franchise then don't expect serious hardcore gaming, but do expect to have fun playing an engaging game.

Westward III

Just like Westward II: Heroes of the Frontier, in this game, you are to choose between three pioneers each with his or her own story to tell. However, even though each will follow a different path towards their destiny, there's one common denominator between them too, and that's to start a new life in search of greater fortune in the west. Furthermore, choosing your alter ego will also unlock one free building for you to use, depending on your hero's personality and expertise.

Westward III: Gold Rush plays the same as the earlier games of the series where your objective is to fulfill tasks and quests in order to build self sustaining settlements and continue on your mission. As the hero of the story, your main mission is to tend to the people living in your current town and keep them happy and well-supplied. Building different structures, searching for supply sources and providing jobs is only part of the story. Defending the town against bandits by hiring lawmen is equally as important.

All controls of the game make use of the mouse, with some alternatives using the keyboard buttons. You are provided with an action panel, a map and several other tools at the bottom of your screen. Above, you will find your missions, the store interface, and well, more buttons that you'll go visit from time to time. All in all, the icons can be a bit confusing at first, but just as traditional Westward fashion, you'll get use to all the tools in the interface as time goes by playing the game.

I've been reading some facts about home aquariums lately and I actually found out that there's much more to know about fishes than just putting some living thing inside a tank. Thankfully, the FishCo game is like a teaching tool about keeping aquariums and taking care of one. And the best thing about it all is that it's a casual game.
FishCo is actually a name of a company, a business you and your partner Tracy built from your deep love for fishes. Your aim in this newly established venture is to of course, earn money from selling livestock and aquarium supplies. Dividing up the work, Tracy takes care of coordinating with the suppliers, and you will do all the raising, breeding and selling of fish, which actually brings us to the objectives of the game.

The game falls under the time management genre where you're tasked to profit from selling fish. Before each level starts, you're given specific tasks to fulfill before the time limit expires. Basic tasks include raising and feeding fishes until they are mature enough to sell. All the challenges are easy enough to complete within the time limit, but if you would like some decorations and fishes adorning your own trophy tanks, you would have to beat the expert time limit for each level.

One great thing about FishCo is how it closely simulates taking care of real life fish. Making sure your livestock is fed and raised properly only scratches the surface. Most of the time you will also have to clean the algae from the tanks and regularly change its water, put antibiotics and other medicine into the tanks whenever your fishes are infected, and even dispose of the fishes too if for some reason they die because of neglect. All in all showing you how aquarium-keeping is really one big responsibility, but something that offers so much fun too if done correctly.

Somehow, these two incidents seem very suspicious, but you have more important issues at hand - trying to build back your crumbling business, and try to find Tiki Guy in the process of expanding throughout the islands.

Aside from concocting burgers, Burger Island 2: The Missing Ingredient now lets you serve breakfast and snacks to add to Beach Burger's restaurant treats. Wait for orders to come in ringing at the top of your screen, fry those burgers, tacos or eggs, and try to collect all the ingredients in the order they must be put together for the perfect meal. Reach the target score for each level, and be rewarded with more revenue as you build reputation on your restaurant in the process.

Failing to reach the target profit for each day will make you retry the level again, and in order to avoid that, you must be prompt with each customer order. Putting in wrong ingredients to your meals will lose you money too, as well as burnt ingredients when you neglect them frying for a long time. On the other hand, you'll be awarded with bonus points depending on how you perform on each level, and get ranked higher too if you prove yourself well.

Simbin, some love them some hate them. There's one point however everyone can agree on: they make hard core race simulators. Things that had to go were the visual lap/time indicators and using the grass as race line. But do these Sim like features destroy the fun?

Presentation

GTR2 is a relatively old game but still up there with the big guns.. When it was released every sim freak went nuts and everyone else just thought: I can't drive this. But it still appeals to quite a broad audience. And that's no surprise because it packs some pretty impressive features. First of all it's the only game that licensed the official FIA GT championship. A championship split in two groups of race cars. A fast pure race machine class and a normal sport car tweaked class. Available cars include the Ferrari F360, Saleen S7-R and Aston martin DB9. And with machines like these and a clear push by the manufacturers for development, it's clearly not a B competition. Also the cars all look beautiful when the graphics are turned up. As do the tracks, that include greats like Spa and Imola. So the game packs the goods when it comes to license (they lost it now hence the awful sequel) and graphics. That's quite an achievement from the developers from Simbin.

Gameplay

GTR2's presentation appeals the broad audience but the game play attracts the sim players. Driving around the track of Spa is such a joy. Every bump in the road you feel and some places of the track clearly have less grip than others. For example: the pit exit feels very slippery but the racing line gives you the grip. The tracks are made in such detail that I almost forgot to mention the lack of them. GTR2 isn't grand turismo. It has about 12 tracks and 35 cars but the detail put in each track and car makes up for the lack of content. Cars all feel different and sound different. I'm a Ferrari fan and love that distinctive Scuderia engine sound, but others might like Porsche and will only by the sound recognize the vehicle.

24 hours

How many games let you race trough night and day in an extreme endurance race between manufacturers all over the game? Not many but GTR2 does! Doing that results in a fantastic experience with real life cars and tracks turning day and night on your full HD computer screen. Rain suddenly falls everyone pits, it turns night you have to press H to turn the headlight's on. Then your tyres are worn out and you have to make an extra pit stop as the number 2 Ferrari overtakes you and wins the fight after many hours of excitement. This perfectly sums up this highly realistic game that both pleases the arcade and sim racers. But to get the most out of it you must have patience and keep practicing. This isn't a pick it up and play but ultimately gives you the fulfilling feeling of a real race victory.

Pokemon Platinum Game

Every fan knows that each generation of Pokémon games always has three versions. After Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl, here is Pokémon Platinum. And despite the absence of major innovations, everything suggests that this episode seems to have a bright future.

Pokemon Platinum has arrived. More than one million units were sold in just days, reflecting the extraordinary popularity of the series in the Japanese archipelago. Yet this version Platinum gives exactly the same story and the same game as its big sister on DS (Diamond and Pearl versions). Pokémon starting again in Ouisticram, Tortipouss and Tiplouf. It is still exploring the region of Sinnoh to recover badges in arenas. There are hundreds of wildlife to capture and raise, and so on.

The fighting tactics and gameplay is still the same. First, to cut short the various rumors and speculation, there are no new species of Pokémon in Platinum. However, some rare species now include new variants. Motisma, for example, can now appear in the form of appliances. Obviously, this does not impact on the glaring gameplay and fans will no doubt be disappointed. However, the Giratina is also in this game. This legendary Pokémon is also the star of Platinum. The new transformation is unlocked after you complete a new tower puzzle/quest that will test your sense of direction.

The graphics are more colorful but the environment is the same. The Pokédex has full information about the different species. Finally, the regulars of the series will note some differences with Diamond and Pearl versions such as improved graphics and the overall presentation. While the environments and scenery keep roughly the same look as the past but are more colorful and they are 3D from time to time. There are now also cut-scenes depicting key moments of the adventure. Sprite Pokémon in the game have underwent a facelift. In terms of story, there are all the old acquaintances from other versions like Diamond and Pearl and a handful of new smaller secret agents who appears regularly to help you in your adventures. In short, if Pokémon Platinum does not revolutionize the series on DS, there are still enough new features and gameplay to fill the neophytes and legitimize the impatience of fans.

The setting of Bubble Town starts in the idyllic little town of Borb Bay, where hundreds of little bubble heads called borbs live. One day, however, aliens called Lumps arrived on this quiet little town and invaded the whole of Borb Bay, leaving tons of mess around the place. You have to help the borbs get back their freedom once again, because well, they are just too lazy to do this task for themselves. And besides, what can they possibly do since they are just small heads of bubble, right?

Anyway, the game plays like the famous marble popper game known as Puzzle Bubble where you are tasked to clear all the bubbles in the game field by matching 3 or more same colored bubbles. There are no time limits in this game but for a different challenge, you'll only have a limited number of ammunition in your arsenal to make all the borbs pop. This is the second video game release that the Ultimate Fighting Championship has released, this new video game that is being sold on the 360 and the PS3 is a very fun and interesting video game, it allows you to play and use the moves that the Ultimate Fighting Championship fighters have in the cage, with hundreds of matches and tons of action this is one of the most exciting video games that I have ever played.

One of the things that I like is that every player has unique moves and the game is very realistic. Now some people have complaint a bit about the graphics but I actually like the way the game looks a lot, one thing that we have to remember is that a lot of people have downloaded a demo version of the game but the actual console version will be much better.

One of the downsides of the game is the long learning curve, each fighter has so many different moves that it becomes very hard to learn each move for each fighter, also the use of multiple combination in the controller makes it a bit harder for the game to be fast and easy to learn.

So really I would give 4 stars out of 5 for this game, with so many moves and all of the options that the game has this is a great way for people to experience what it feel to be an mixed martial arts fighter, well at least in your television screen.

When I typed in “helicopter flash game” to my favorite search engine, I thought I was into something high-tech. I thought I would have the chance to fly my favorite Blackhawk helicopter along with other helicopters I want to fly for free. But then, my hopes fade away when I saw what is up for me… A helicopter flash game that seems to be as old as the first video game created.

What I saw was neither an RPG nor a simulator. I did not see any Blackhawk, Heuy, Comanche or Apache. I did not see anything that would spark a single interest that would make me feel like playing it. But what the fuss? I am on the site so made my very first click.

And so the game began. At first I did not know how to make the helicopter fly. And since this was the case, the tiny helicopter on my screen that’s surrounded by neon green wall kept on falling down. I never read the instructions or the ‘how to play’ portion of the window since I was not planning to spend another minute with it. But then again, what the fuss?

And so, for the second time within the period of 1 minute, I read the ‘how to play’ portion. I realized it wasn’t so hard. All I have to do is to hold the button of my mouse to make the helicopter raise and release it if I want to lower the helicopter.

What happened next was unexpected. After getting the hang of it and beating my personal best game after game, I was playing the helicopter flash game for several minutes that I never noticed it at all.

Okay, I admit, the game is very addictive. For several reason:

The helicopter flash game is easy to play even your kid will learn it in no time. There is only to way to go: either up or down. You don’t need to go forward or backward for the helicopter will automatically fly forward. All you have to do is to make it go up or down.

The helicopter flash game is so simple. It may not have very good graphics but hey! At the office, you cannot really play modern games.

And, the helicopter game has no ending. You can play it over and over again, period.

Sometimes, I just want to see the helicopter plummet the ground or hit the wall, just to see and hear the explosion. Try it if you like. You might not get the same experience as I do but the thing is, you have tried it.

Improving the Golf Game For Left Handers

Between 10% and 15% of the World's population is left handed but there is an anomaly here in that the percentage of golfers who play this way is actually quite a lot lower than this at somewhere around 8%. It is probable that one of the main reasons for this is that it simply hasn't been that easy or affordable to buy appropriate golf equipment until quite recently. So, we have a situation where many left handed people learn to play golf like a right handed person. Another reason is that some 'lefties' consider that although they are playing the same way a right handed person would, they are actually playing in a natural way for them. This is because they are essentially taking a left hand lead when they play their shots and the ball leaves their body off to the left. That actually raises the question why right handers play this way. In fact there are some famous cases of right handed people playing golf as left handers. The two obvious ones being Mike Weir and Phil Mickelson. Both are right handed at pretty much everything else they do, but they actually play golf the 'wrong way around'.

Having said that though it is normally difficult to change something that comes so naturally to you. If it feels natural to play as a left hander then that is really the way that you should play isn't it?

The problem is that the left handed golfer doesn't have as much choice of equipment as the right handed golfer. Simple economics means that it is not profitable for the golf equipment manufacturers to produce the same amount of left handed equipment as they do right handed equipment, although there are a few companies that have identified this as a niche and only concentrate on the left handed market. However, this still doesn't give you a huge amount of choice as a left handed player and it is likely that the equipment you have invested in is more expensive than that which another player uses to play the same shots. It's all rather unfair really isn't it?

How about this then for a novel approach. Why not switch over and play right handed? Ludicrous I hear you shout. However, take a step back and think about it for a minute. If you have grown up with the game and are essentially self-taught you will have inevitably picked up a number of bad habits along the way. What if you learned the game again from scratch? With professional tuition those bad habits simply wouldn't occur as you develop your right handed game. What's more you will also now have the same choice of equipment as every other player.

Remember what I said earlier about Mike Weir and Phil Mickelson who lets not forget have both won their fair share of majors? Well, why couldn't that work the other way around for you? Maybe you are left handed but that doesn't mean you won't be a better golfer by playing right handed.

Bloons Tower Defense 2 Game

After the first Bloons Tower Defense turned out a little flat and boring I was hoping that the second would be a marked improvement. The second game offers some additional features that help entertain you for a little longer...but is there enough to class it as a successful sequel?

Well there is one additional tower in the 2nd game, the monkey boomerang tower and this does not offer anything in the way of real innovation. It provides the player with a little more offense to use in balloon bursting but I thought this game was rather rushed out...having expected 3-4 new tower defense mechanisms of real creativity. Instead we were given 2 other small features, road spikes and monkey glue making this game feel more like a patch than anything else.

The road spikes are a temporary defense weapon that you lay down anywhere along the track to pop balloons that escape the tower defenses. Each set has the ability to pop 10 balloons. This can come in quite handy as a backup when your main defense fails to take care of all the balloons. It can actually prove a life saver.

The monkey glue is also a temporary deployment and can slow 20 balloons down acting in a similar fashion to the ice tower. Both the road spikes and monkey glue can only last until the end of the round.

Bloons Tower Defense 2 also features difficulty options: easy, medium and hard. So there is more of a challenge to the 2nd addition. If you're competent at tower defense games you may want to move straight on to hard difficulty.

Even though there are several difficulty settings I can't help but also notice the clear lack of level variety. There are only 3 levels, each difficulty has one level tied to it which means you once again soon tire of the same landscapes and dull tracks. This coupled with the clear lack of diversity in towers means that you will be loosing interest in Bloons Tower Defense 2 almost as fast as you did the first game.

The hard difficulty setting means that you have to contend with balloons coming at you from 2 routes instead of 1, which does provide somewhat of a refreshed challenge...but falls well short of making up for the other obvious flaws in the game.

Game Verdict

Having recommended number 2 over the original, I would still advise you to spend more of your energy and time on the third in the series which far outweighs the first and second put together.

Amongst the six character classes, the game gives each class several talents, and as each talent is applied, the character will gain stats for extra health and stamina, or have new abilities unlocked (like using the Shotgun talent unlocks the Carnage ability that lets the character fire a focused explosive blast from that Shotgun), or unlocks other abilities. While the characters might have talents related to their background, unique talents owned by each class carry the same name as its respective class.

There are several strategies you can follow in order to win the game, however not all of them work perfectly, you can choose to build up your offensive forces in order to crush your enemies with unique weapons, this would make your your troops virtually unstoppable, if you are one of those players who thinks that the best defense is a good offense then you will definitively use this strategy to your advantage; another strategy you may use is to strengthen your defenses by building fortified walls and gates to shield you from any attack while you come up with a good plan to crush the enemy.

Machines at War players are able to build vehicles and aircraft in order to take complete control of the field and airspace, some of the vehicles and aircraft that can be built include: trucks, tanks, helicopters, jets, etc. The game also features full scale maps which let the player have a clear view of the terrain and how the units are organized, overall this is a very solid game which should keep you busy for several weeks!

If 'change' has become the operative guiding word for 2008, probably no one has incorporated it better than the Prince of Persia game for PC. Almost everything from the original Jordan Mechner game and character has changed here and this is definitely a different Prince. The story does not seem to be a continuation of the series, except for a few elements borrowed from Sands of Time. The look of our dear Prince has been changed too. More graphic detail has been added to him - he now has a muscular body rather than the lithe athletic body he had before and his face has turned from Aladdin-like to being raggedy. This Prince looks more of a vagabond than anything else.

The game play has changed drastically too. In any game, the main focus is on killing enemies, but in Prince of Persia (2008), the focus is on resurrecting people! In that way, this is a 'constructive' game rather than a 'destructive' one. But fans of the previous Prince games will find this one very easy to play. There are helpful hints such as homing orbs strewn around everywhere and there are more tele-porters now, which makes Prince's task much, much simpler. If you sit at a stretch, you could complete the game from start to finish within 12 hours.

However, these changes are definitely not to indicate the game is a poor show. On the contrary, Prince of Persia is one of the most visually stunning and the most engrossing games of 2008. If you are able to lay the mantle of the previous Prince aside, which should not be too difficult to those who have entered later in the series, you will thoroughly enjoy our new avatar of the nameless Prince. There is definitely a good storyline, though not much of a continuation, and the most significant feature of the game is the fighting action. If you are fans of sword fighting in games, Prince of Persia (2008) holds its ground just like its predecessors have.

The most unique and interesting aspect of Prince of Persia (2008) is the character of Elika, whose father has helped to release the evil god Ahriman. She is Prince's loyal and trusty sidekick during most of the game. But no, Elika is not just a sidekick, she is much more. She is a complete parallel character, and you are playing not one but two characters here. There are some interesting features put on here. When the Prince jumps, Elika will jump with him. When he walks on narrow ledges, she will hop on his back! And if he happens to fall off vines, she will grab his hand and pull him back! In this way, the Prince of Persia (2008) will never get over abruptly because the Prince dies. Because, as a matter of fact, he never dies!

Now, if you like that bit about Prince of Persia, go ahead and play this game by all means. Despite the sea of changes, the basic maneuvers of Prince, such as jumping, swinging, wall running, etc. are all there. There is also an amazing roof running feature which is sure to make you press the action button again and again just to see how Prince does this act.

Chocolatier has quickly become one of the most popular small file pc games since Diner Dash. In the original Chocolatier game and it's successor, Chocolatier 2: The Secret Ingredients, you the player needed to travel around the world buying ingredients, setting up factories and selling chocolate. In Chocolatier 2 they introduced a lab where you had to discover new recipes. Now, in Chocolatier: Decadence by Design, the game makers have taken this one step further by allowing you to create, name and customize your own chocolates! But that's just the beginning of the new features in Chocolatier 3 Decadance by Design.

Chocolatier 3 takes place in the 1940's, right after WWII. This time you're assisting Alex and striving to become the CEO of Bauemister Confections, while she is looking for her husband who's plane went down during the war. You start off in Zurich making basic chocolate bars in your factory. As the game goes along you'll also find recipes for infusions, exotic stars and the brand new coffees and coffee blends. You'll be able to travel to San Francisco, Toronto, Havana, Tangiers, Wellington, Tokyo among other big cities, and there are a couple of secret ports like Uluru that you'll eventually discover.

The factories work different in Chocolatier Decadence by Design than the previous games. This time you won't have to buy the factories, and each factory is configured to only make one type of chocolate. This can make it more difficult to create one type of chocolate quickly, but it keeps things more organized and lets you keep your money. You can also upgrade your factories so that you can change it's recipe without flying there. Unfortunately, you can't customize the look and logo of the factory this time. Another difference is the challenges. Often times at ports someone will ask you to make a certain chocolate in exchange for either money or a new recipe. The same thing happened in the first two games, only difference is now you can accept challenges that are wired to you. The game also allows you to accept more than one challenge at a time. It's not unlikely to have five or six going at the same time in Chocolatier 3.

The biggest, and most fun change in Chocolatier 3: Decadence by Design is the secret testing lab in Iceland. As you collect ingredients you will be able to mix them together any way you like and create your own truffles, coffees, bars, infusions, exotics and coffee blends. But keep in mind that some blends will do better on the market than others, and it's good to listen to the feedback the adviser gives you. You can also choose the color, topping, and design on the chocolates, name it and add a description. There are tons of different cacao beans and ingredients to use. And in Chocolatier 3 you'll find new ingredients like balinese and maroccan cacoa, coffee liquer, butter, whipped cream, wasabi, pistachios, and a wide variety of fruits, flavors and nuts.

Chocolatier games are fun because they combine adventure, tycoon and a bit of time management together neatly, and it also requires you to think and be innovative. If you liked the previous two games, there is no doubt that you will enjoy Chocolatier 3: Decadence by Design; it really takes the previous games to a more advanced level and the new additions to the game make it even more fun. I can only wonder what the folks behind Chocolatier 3 will have planned for us next, an intergalactic version of Chocolatier, maybe? In the meantime I'm happily enjoying the latest installment of Chocolatier.

The match-3 part employs traditional tile swapping as you try to rebuild broken artifacts by driving their parts to the bottom of the board. You must collect all of the artifact parts before time runs out, or else, you'll have your life points decreased by one heart each time you fail.

Just like any match-3 game, you can also collect several power-ups to help you out in your quest. Power-ups include bombs, lightning and additional time you can use whenever you find yourself stuck in a pinch. The Race is one of the most exciting hidden object games that I have played so far. Very innovative game and I haven't found one hidden object as good as this one. Normally you need to squint your eyes to find the hidden object games. But you don't have to strain your eyes if you choose not to. Well, it's easy when you want it to be, it's also challenging when you want it to be! Well, how could this be? Read on....

You get to choose between two modes. Challenging mode when you want to be in a race play. And World Explorer mode when you want to play in a relaxed play. I've tried both but I prefer to in relaxed play since I can take my time to solve the levels.

The Race is about traveling around the many exciting and famous places in the world. When you reach certain places like Hollywood, Las Vegas casino or Grand Canyon, there are lists of items on the side. Just as the usual classic hidden object game, you need to find all the list of items. What makes this game special is that you have different types of tools to help you to get to your items. How about a Magnifying Glass to enlarge your vision to see clearer? You won't have any problem to see those tiny little object cluttered somewhere among all the other things anymore! This makes this game so nice and additive. The Magnifying Glass tool is available all the time even though you haven't gain any points.

There are other three tools to help you through The Race too. There is this helpful Hot and Cold Cursor that burns when you are near the first object on the list. While another tool, Compass, points to the list of object on list. Other than the Hot and Cold Cursor and Compass, there's another tool which I prefer which is the Revealer. It shows the exact location on the first object on list which is very useful one! But you need to find the items on the silhouettes before you can gain access to these three tools.

If you play in the relaxed mode, you can have more access to the tools whilst if you play the challenging mode, you still can use the tools but with restricted access to the tools (except Magnifying Glass which have unlimited use in both mode of games). For The Race, if you over click or spam click on the items, you will be penalized. Your screen will be black out and no cursor for 5 seconds. The penalization is different from the rest of the games and quite a nice twist.

During one particular level, where Statue of Liberty is concerned, quite an original idea from the developer which hides things on the statue bu just differentiating the color and shades which blends to the color of the statue in blue-ish and gray shades. At first I wonder how do I detect all it, but then I found out the easier way to find the object. Guess what? I just random clicked on the body of the statue which has narrow space and most of the items you will be able to detect! By just pure luck. Haha! But it's not always this easy with other levels.

The music is nice and in line with the theme. This game is about racing and exploring the world, so the music they play here is quite a suspense and catchy one. The graphic is great too! A very recommended game to play with. The Race has originality and nice refreshing change in the hidden game genre.

Natalie Brooks: The Treasure of the Lost Kingdom is a hidden object game, but unlike other games of this type, almost all of the hidden items are needed to develop on the game's storyline. In some cases that you'll be given random items you'll need to find, Natalie will beforehand state that she has to clean the area, thus ending up with a reason for you to find listed items. But most of the time, the game is driven by goals you'll need to accomplish and puzzles you'll need to solve relevant to the progress of Natalie's story.

The scenes are not timed and you're provided with a replenishing hint button to help you unstuck yourself against hard-to-find items. All you have to do during the whole game is to enjoy the storyline and read closely the character dialogues. Your quest will commence after you're given tasks on what to do next. Look for highlighted objects and possible inventory items, zoom in on specific parts of the scene, and try to solve the mini-puzzles that pop-up whenever they are required to continue your quest.

The story of The Color of Murder starts after your friend Willy asks you for an investigative favor. His son, Adrian went missing for days, and he wants you to look for clues regarding Adrian's whereabouts. This is easier said than done though, because Adrian was last seen hanging around with some dangerous crowd. After he went missing, articles and letters linking to a previous murder were also found in his apartment. This case may yet be another one of Carol Reed's life and death situations, and to top it all off, she must hurry solving this one too to make it in time for Midsummer's Eve.

The game is a first-person point-and-click adventure where you are tasked to help Carol Reed solve a mysterious case. Throughout the whole game you explore buildings and other scenic locales, talk to various people involved in your investigation, and solve puzzles in order to continue your journey. Of course, there is much interaction needed to employ on selected objects in the game too, which basically means storing items in your inventory and using them whenever the chance permits.

One very nice thing about The Color of Murder is how much freedom you're given to explore the whole game. You can visit any location you want on the game map and nothing will prevent you from exploring the sites further. However, the negative side to all of this is that you'll most of the time lose track of your objectives from all that exploring. We all agree that taking care of plants entails much dedication and hard work, but it seems that it takes a green thumb too for them to grow without much care. A perfect example would be the protagonist in the Alice Greenfingers 2 game, because in here, Alice earns money without ever worrying if produce will eventually grow in her farm.

Alice plant crops and takes care of farm animals, that's what she does best. Her lazy Uncle Berry knows this and thus keeps her in the farm to earn him some easy money. Alice doesn't mind at all, it seems, so she goes around each level doing all of her uncle's bidding. I know the story is kind of disturbing because it looks like Alice is just some sort of slave girl, but that's how the story goes, and in another sense, also sets up the mechanics of each level.

Alice Greenfingers 2 is categorized as a time management game, but actually, it's a free-flowing farm simulation without any time to consider whatsoever. In each level, you are given tasks by your Uncle Berry to complete, and you must do all that you can to budget your money and farm land to cater to his wishes. General examples of this include earning one hundred dollars or selling a set amount of crops, but sometimes, he asks you to do errands too like weeding out dandelions, giving the dog some exercise, or even digging some hidden treasure in the farm.

Buying seeds, animals and buildings, and selling produce and crops in the marketplace all take place simultaneously during the actual game screen. The marketplace and Paul's shop can be triggered by a single click from the game menu, and you can set and forget all your selling activities by just setting the number of crops you need to sell. Furthermore, you can also queue up Alice's activities in the farm while visiting the other windows, making you save time wisely in buying and selling stuff.

CSI-NY Game

CSI: NY is a great game if only for the fact that it is the perfect vehicle for a hidden object game. After all, what better reason to be searching for hidden objects than if you were a police investigator searching murder scenes for evidence?

CSI: NY is a pretty faithful adaptation of the hit TV series, with the series stars such as detectives Mac Taylor, Stella Bonasera, Don Flack, Dr. Sheldon Hawkes and Adam Ross all featuring heavily in the game.

The feel and atmosphere of the game also captures the essence of the TV series. The scenarios in the game are structured like episodes of a TV series, and what really got me was that each episode started off with a clip of the murder victim being found followed by credits totally like a TV series. And each change of location also incorporates a movie clip of the cityscape of New York, again a faithful adaptation of the series and a very nice touch to the game.

The actual hidden object puzzles in the game are also integrated very well. As detective Taylor or Bonasera, you attend a crime scene and need to search the area for evidence and any plot items that might lead to potential witnesses or suspects.

Other hidden object scenes involve searching the premises of potential suspects and last-known-whereabouts of the victims. There is very little random objects to be found: everything seems to fit nicely into the story. There are even nice touches such as newspaper clippings that when found reveal the history of the victims and further advances the story.

Another thing that makes the hidden puzzle section of the game unique is that each scene starts with you not knowing what items you're meant to be searching for. There is a list of items to be found, but that list emerges very slowly. So for the first minute or so, you're on your own trying to guess which objects could be evidence in each case.

What this game excels in though are the mini-games that are scattered throughout, and there are plenty of them. These are not your typical mini-games such as jigsaws or numerical puzzles, but are actually neatly integrated into the story and theme of the game. You get to swab crime scenes for fingerprints, take photos of the correct evidence, perform facial recognition, calculate the victim's falling trajectory and a whole lot more. It is these unique mini-games that makes CSI: NY really stand out among the other games of this genre and sets the tone you'd expect from a game based on the CSI franchise.

There are 4 "episodes" in this game, with different characters from the series having starring roles and with each case being unique (as unique as they can be... after a dozen seasons of the various CSI series, every kind of murder becomes pretty cliched).

There is a fair amount of humor and characterization in the game to make it feel like the TV series as well. Scenes such as Adam Ross saying "Umm... Mac? Why do you and Stella always want to do the fingerprinting yourselves? Is there something wrong with my work?" are funny and capture the essence of the show.

Admittedly, the game is pretty linear with very little room for open exploration. Everything occurs in a sequence and could be stifling for gamers more used to the exploration-style adventure games. But CSI: NY stays true to the episodic scene-by-scene storyboarding of a TV show, and is a pretty good adaptation of the franchise. Definitely a game worth playing if you're into the crime scenes theme and want to have a hand in helping stars like Gary Sinise solve crimes.

Atlus managed to take the game up levels compared to its predecessors, an amazing stint that makes the game superb. With a relatable cast, and a challenging plot, great visuals and controls, it's not surprising that Shin Megami Tensei was and still is a lot of people's top favorite video game to play.

Developed by IO Interactive and published by Eidos Interactive, comes Kane & Lynch: Dead Men. This game is available on Xbox 360, PS3 and Windows. Lions Gate movie studio has also already bought the movie rights for this game, so you know it has to be good!

Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is a spiritual type sequel to IO's Freedom Fighters, due to the fact of similarities in the game's controls, overall game-play, the game engine and the recruitment and management techniques of the squad.

Opening scene a voice-over reads a letter which is address to Jenny, a young girl. It is from her father Kane. Kane has been convicted of crimes that were committed in Venezuela and is traveling to death row. James Lynch, another death row inmate, hints plans of a break out during mid-trip, which Kane is unaware. The bus carrying the inmates is involved in a head on collision and a group of mercenaries, later known to be The7 (games antagonist), who free them. Soon it becomes known that instead of rescuing it is indeed a kidnapping. The two convicts are taken to an under construction shopping mall where The7 are revealed as culprits of breakout. They are after Kane and looking for revenge for allegedly leaving them to die and stealing the 'retirement award'. Indifferent to Kane's repeated claims of innocence, The7 make Kane an offer. They state that he must find the stolen item within three weeks, or both his wife and daughter will be murdered. It is known that even if Kane is successful, he will still be murdered upon the completion of his task. Lynch is the middleman, reporting to The7 of Kane's every move.

Kane and Lynch make a journey to the bank where they recover two briefcases which contain a mysterious, unknown item in each of them. To their surprise when arriving at the vault, only one briefcase is to be found. They must now travel to Japan to persuade the daughter of crime lord Retomoto, Yoko, to help them in recovering the second briefcase. Lynch ends up killing Yoko stating she would not stay still. This raged Yoko's father. Once escaping Retomoto's men, the story line goes back to Kane's three week deadline.

Kane takes a desperate plea to renegotiate with The7 back in LA. While Lynch inquires on his decision, Kane refers to Lynch that he is a dead man also. Lynch knowingly has made a secret deal with The7 ensuring his life and a place in The7. As most antagonists do, they betray Lynch and knock him out. Once awaken, he comes in and out of consciousness, seeing Kane in a shallow grave that is located at a construction site. The7 gets ready to execute Kane, as his plea for more time failed. The7 kills Kane's estranged wife in front of his eyes. The brothers leave for Havana and Kane attempts to talk to his daughter who is pulled into the hole.

All hidden object adventures normally look the same. In a first person point of view, you get to find strategically placed items in a static but picturesque scene. The Annabel game plays like your average hidden object game too, but instead of static backgrounds, you get to explore the world in 360 degrees, breaking the confinement of the usual cluttered sceneries of the past.

After attending an archaeological conference in Egypt, Annabel spent her remaining time of stay to visit a museum to learn more of Egypt's vast culture. In this place, she learned of a curse befalling young women tourists every 10 years and of an Egyptian princess named just like her. The story of Annabel the princess is a tragic tale of love wherein she lost her loved one named Akhenaten against the evil priest, Amirtekh. And little did our heroine know that she'll get to relive the past once again firsthand after getting sucked right into Amirtekh's magic amulet.

One thing familiar about Annabel is its hidden object game play wherein you are tasked to find items or pieces of items resembling the silhouette shown at the upper side of your screen. However, it won't take long for you to realize that the items are not only hidden on your current view, but also on your side and back views. With this predicament, you'll have to rotate your vision by clicking the left and right arrow icons and hope for the best that you'll find what you're currently looking for.

The exploration doesn't stop there though because after a while, you'll still need to backtrack on previous locations to check out more hidden objects. This is not the usual go-to-the-map-screen type of backtracking, but more of like you walking through open doors and climbing stairs in order to explore other levels. Opening unlocked compartments is also a recurring feature and talking to non-playable characters will keep you on your feet with given tasks to fulfill.

Developed by Epic Games and published by Microsoft Game Studios, Gears of War is a tactical, third-person shooter video game. It was released on November 7, 2008 exclusively for the Xbox 360 in North America. Europe got it's copy on November 17, 2006. There was also a limited edition that was released which included bonus content and a "Destroyed Beauty" entitled art book which detailed the game's back-story. North America also received a Microsoft Windows version on November 6, 2007 which also contained bonus features.

The main story line features soldiers of Delta Squad fight to save the humans of planet Sera from a ruthless cavernous enemy, Locust Horde. Players assume the character of Marcus Fenix. Marcus Fenix is a former prisoner and war-hardened soldier.

In the game you must utilize cover and strategic fire in order to advance through the various scenarios. You can also use a second player to help assist in your mission. There are also online modes where players play different modes using up to 8 other players.

The most important aspect of this game is the utilization of cover. After advancing to the more difficult levels, even a few seconds of exposure to enemy fire can result in your death. Players are able to aim precisely at enemy targets or use blind-fire while taking safe-haven behind cover. Blind fire helps avoid oncoming damage from exposing the heads from behind the cover. There are many rolling and cover maneuvers available to players with the touch of a single button and direction from the left thumb-stick.

The main focus in the Gears of War game is on Marcus Fenix and Delta Squad's encounters with the Locust Horde. Members of Delta Squad include: Marcus Fenix of course, Dominic "Dom" Santiago, Augustus "Cole Train" Cole, and Damon Baird. Marcus Fenix has just been escaped from Jacinto Maximum Security Prison by Dominic Santiago. When using the co-op mode, the second player will assume the identity of Santiago. When playing multi-player games, all four members of Delta Squad may be used. There are also more players available such as Private Anthony Carmine, Lieutenant Minh Young Kim, and Colonel Victor Hoffman.

The Plot:

Gears of War first takes place fourteen years after Emergence Day. Emergence day was a day in which the habitants of Sera where introduced the life of the Locust. A former COG, Marcus Fenix is allowed to reinstate into the military after his four year sentence in prison. He is taken to meet Delta Squad after Dominic Santiago escapes him from prison. The point is to locate a device called the "resonator" which will map the Locust Tunnels Development, which is also known as the Hollow.

Development:

Gears of War was developed after three main influential games. These include Resident Evil 4 and Kill Switch.

Awards:

Gears of War was a highly anticipated in the Xbox 360 games of 2006 and held the hype till it's release in 2008. When Gears of War premiered during the 2005 E3 show it won many awards including several "Best 360 Game" awards from IGN, 1UP and Gamespy.

Here are seven things that distinguish Test Match Cricket from the other forms of the game.

1. The game is played over a maximum of five days Test Match cricket is the long form of the game being played over four to five days. 6. The ball is red. The cricket ball is round, encased in red leather and hand stitched. It can be up to nine inches in circumference but not less than 8.8125 inches. It can weigh between 5.5ounces and 5.75ounces.
7. There are three possible outcomes to the game. Test Match cricket is unique in the arena of sports as it is a game that can be played without a result being achieved at the end. There are three possible outcomes to a Test Match: an outright win, a tie, or a draw. When both teams finish on exactly the same score then there is a tie. The very first incidence of this rare occurrence happened at Brisbane during the West Indies 1960 tour to Australia. a match is said to be drawn when there is no chance of an outright win by either team.

Despite what you may think, solitaire isn't actually one specific game... it's actually an entire category of different card games. Solitaire is actually any card game that you play on your own. The game called "Solitaire" that Microsoft ships with windows is actually a type of solitaire game, called Klondike.

There are hundreds of other solitaire games as well though. Another favourite is
Freecell, which Microsoft also ships. Other popular solitaire games, include Spider,
Pyramid, and Tri Peaks.

Each solitaire game has different rules, different ways to win, and different
styles.

Some solitaire games, like Klondike, don't show you all the cards at the start. A
mixture of luck and skill is needed to win the game.

Other games, like Freecell, have all the cards visible, right from the very start of the
game. This means that the game is totally under the users control... there is no luck
involved at all, and if the user can think things through deeply enough, then they
are VERY likely to win.( Of the 32,000 deals available in Microsofts Freecell, only
one, deal number 11982, is unsolveable)

Some games are really hard to win, and require a lot of though. 4 Suit spider is one
of these hard games, and completing a game normally takes atleast half an hour of
solid thinking. Other games are either quite easy( like most deals in Freecell), or
don't require much (if any) thought, like Clock.

Some games have distinctive and attractive card layouts. Pyramid has all the cards in
a big pyramid shape, and the player must remove cards from the bottom layers until
they can reach the top. La Belle Lucie starts the game with 18 fans, which all grow
and shrink as the game goes on. (La Belle Lucie looks particularly attractive on a
solitaire game supporting rotated cards)

Some solitaire games were played regularly by important historical figures. George
Washington and Napoleon were said to play Napoleon at Elba island, with claims
that it helped them to think in times of stress.

All solitaire games help you to think, and improve your concentration and memory-
and yet they are still relaxing and fun... A much better way to unwind than watching
TV!

Game Cabinets - A Newcomer's Guide

Game cabinets are basically cabinets that contain low-end computers and are sometimes painted and decorated to look like real retro arcade machines. The computer is hidden inside the cabinet, opening with a lock and key; if the PC needs to be taken out for some reason. Often a joystick or game pad is firmly attached to the cabinet as controls. But if those are not available, a keyboard or mouse may be used as substitution. A sort of cabinet frame is built around the monitor, which is set slightly deep in the cabinet at an upward angle, to resemble the authenticity of an arcade machine and for easy viewing as well.

The actual computer itself need not have impressive specs or hardware - only the basics will do. Any second-hand computer, or an old one that's lying around will work. All such a 'cabinet computer' needs is:

1) A basic monitor that can fit in the cabinet. (a television can be used for better authenticity)

2) A simple, working keyboard and mouse.

3) Any old processor (even a 166 MHz Intel Centrino Processor would do)

4) A CD-ROM drive to install the operating system.

5) A USB port to transfer files in, or use the CD-ROM Drive.

6) A set of speakers to render the game sounds and music.

7) A 10 or 20 Gigabyte hard disk.

And that's it - no internet capabilities such as wireless bluetooth, a modem, or ethernet ADSL broadband are needed. After all, did arcades have internet access in those days? ;)

Now on such a computer, a low-end operating system with low system requirements will do, such as Microsoft Windows 98 or Windows Me, or a minimal distribution of Linux (such as Zenwalk). Microsoft no longer supports Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me, so you can either buy a used copy of Windows off eBay or any local computer shop. Old or unused copies of Windows 98/Me should cost around $30 to $50. However, if you want to cut down on expenses, you can download a free Linux distribution from the internet. A few examples of good, minimalistic Linux distributions are Zenwalk, SLAX, Zipslack, or Debian. Read up on them on websites like Distrowatch or Wikipedia to see which one best suits your needs, but Windows is still a safe bet.

Once the machine has been set up with an operating system, you should now load it up with Emulators and ROMS. Emulators are software programs that run ROMS (the arcade games). You need emulators as these games do not run natively on Linux or Windows just like double clicking an EXE file (an executable).

The best known emulator for all sorts of arcade games is known as MAME, which works for both Windows and Linux and ROMS for such games can be searched for on the internet. The ROM file sizes usually aren't all that big, taking up a few megabytes each. If you want to play laser disc games like Dragon's Lair, Dragon's Lair II, Space Ace, etc. you will have to use another emulator known as DAPHNE. Do note that the ROM game files for laser disc games take up a lot of memory, being anywhere from 200 megabytes to 1 gigabyte for each game, so you want to watch your hard disk space there.

When it comes to actually building the game cabinet, you will need plenty of large wood materials and carpentering tools, or you can order such custom parts from companies specialising in selling game cabinet parts, including wooden frames, special televisions, joystick controls and more. You can even buy a complete game cabinet frame plan from them, or order an empty cabinet pre-built, shipped and delivered to you. The second alternative seems to be a cheaper solution instead of buying new materials, but the choice is all yours.

The most important ball-to-ball contact in a billiards game is the half-ball stroke, and is made by aiming through the center of your ball to the extreme edge of the object-ball. If you do this and strike your ball truly in its center, the angle your ball will take after contact with the object-ball is known as the natural angle.

It never varies unless you use side, screw, or forcing strength, and is in such constant request that I suppose I must score more than half my points in match play by the half-ball stroke, or very slight departures from it. Apart from its scoring value, however, the half-ball stroke serves as a standard of comparison for countless other shots.

We speak of a shot being "wider" than a half-ball, or "narrower" than a half-ball, and although it is correct to say that the angle of departure after contact is more obtuse or more acute than the true half-ball, yet I prefer the "wider" and "narrower" familiar to generations of cue-men.

Value of Half-Ball Play

Another material point connected with the half-ball stroke is that the part of the object-ball you wish to hit is always clearly defined. It is a curious fact that there are only two strokes in the whole of the game of billiards where you cannot make a mistake as regards the part of the object-ball you ought to hit.

One of these is the "full-ball," where you have the unmistakable center of the object-ball to aim at. The other is the half-ball, where you have the edge of the object-ball standing out clear and sharp as your invariable target.

In every other case, you have to estimate your target in the billiard game to judge for yourself what part of the object-ball must be struck to produce a desired effect. As the "full-ball" shot is rather infrequently met with, you may say that the half-ball stroke is the only one in constant request which automatically offers its own target on the object-ball.

This is a very great advantage, and explains why you can never learn too much about the scope of the half-ball shot. There is so much in this that if you show me a man who seldom misses a half-ball stroke, I will show you an uncommonly good player. The Value of Practice

In order to play a billiard game well you need to know how to stand at the table, to hold and swing your cue and to strike your ball truly, how to impart top, screw, and side. All this should be considered as general knowledge to be applied to particular strokes, and the more thoroughly you study and practice the general principles of the game the better you will play it.

One of my greatest troubles with pupils is that they want to know how to make certain "strokes" long before they have mastered the elements of cue-man ship. They want to know something about the masse stroke or nursery cannon play before they can make three consecutive half-ball losers. Do be careful not to fall into this very common error - if you will only take plenty of pains with the fundamentals of your billiard game you can almost leave your stroke play to take care of itself.
